Pu Luong Nature Reserve is 25km from Cuc Phuong National Park, connected at the end of Cuc Phuong National Park by two parallel gray limestone mountains and rice valleys in the middle. The primary forest in Pu Luong nature reserve is a closed seasonal evergreen tropical forest with abundant flora and fauna, plenty of both number and type. Pu Luong is recognized as a high value nature reserve for scientific, socio economic and eco-tourism. Together with Pu Hu, the forest in Pu Luong plays an important role in the protection of the watershed of Ma river in Thanh Hoa province. At an altitude of more than 1,700m above sea level, Pu Luong valley is surrounded by two mountain ranges Lung Cao and Pu Luong that create a quite pleasant climate. In summer, it is very cool in the morning, chilly in the evening and late at night. During winter and spring, the weather is extremely cold with snow falling at Pu Luong peak - which is very rare in the central provinces and other parts of Vietnam.
Pu Luong is beautiful in every season. If you want to admire the affluent, poetic beauty of golden terraced rice fields, travel in May and June or in September and October. You can also visit in mid-March and mid-August when the terraced fields are put on bright green coats of young rice and embraced by white clouds. If you want to hunt clouds in Pu Luong, you should go in the last months of the year. Thick layers of floating white clouds embrace the mountain creating a fanciful scene that surely makes the "virtual society" so excited.
